In late March 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Southeast Asia, centering on Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar. The temblor occurred at a shallow six miles causing massive, widespread destruction to buildings, infrastructure, and communities. With many homes severely damaged, families have been isolated and left cut off from access to fresh food, clean water, and other vital resources.
World Central Kitchen is in Myanmar, working with local restaurants and community kitchens to serve thousands of warm, nourishing meals to communities affected by the recent earthquake. In addition, we are also providing food kits to help fill the gap. Each kit includes enough food to feed a family of 4 for up to one week. As the needs continue to grow, WCK is working tirelessly to scale up our operations, collaborating with local partners to expand relief efforts across the hardest-hit areas.
WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency of now to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to communities impacted by disasters quickly and effectively. We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.
