WCK's Response to flooding in Argentina (May 2025)

de WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN INCORPORATED

Beginning in mid-May, non-stop torrential rain inundated the Buenos Aires province on the east coast of Argentina. Up to 15 inches (400 mm) of rain fell in a 72-hour period, triggering flooding that left homes, businesses, farmland, and more underwater. Cities including Campana, Zárate, San Cayateyo, and others were heavily impacted, with boat evacuations and emergency rescues taking place. An estimated 7,500+ people were forced to leave behind their homes in search of emergency shelters. WCK responded and began passing out sandwiches and empanadas while scouting the neighborhoods with the highest level of needs. Our teams adapted meal services and schedules to navigate the continuous rainfall that persisted since our relief efforts first began. In just under two weeks, WCK served 45,460 meals and 12,432 alfajores (traditional South American sandwich cookies) to 17 recipient locations, working with four local restaurants.

WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency of now to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to communities impacted by disasters quickly and effectively. We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.
