WCK Providing Meals to Workers & Families Impacted by the Government Shutdown (Oct. 2025)

World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is working with local restaurant partners to serve hot meals to federal workers and their families impacted by the U.S. government shutdown.
WCK is serving meals from public distribution sites in Washington, D.C. to federal employees and their families impacted by the U.S. government shutdown. At the same time, we’re working with local partners to provide meals to essential airport staff at four major airports—JFK, Reagan National, Dulles, and Baltimore/Washington—who were working without pay.
In 2019, WCK launched our #ChefsForFeds initiative during what became the longest federal shutdown in U.S. history. That effort provided more than 100,000 meals to federal workers and their families in D.C. and, through partnerships with 400 restaurants in 35 states, served hundreds of thousands more meals nationwide.
WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency of now to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to communities impacted by disasters quickly and effectively. We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis around the world.
