WCK's Response to Canada Wildfires (June 2025)
efter WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN INCORPORATEDWildfires have burned across northern Canada throughout the summer, with Manitoba being particularly hit hard. In June, blazes burned 1.7 million acres in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta. Over 25,000 people across the three provinces were evacuated. WCK first arrived in Manitoba and then expanded relief efforts into Saskatchewan to support communities. In Manitoba, WCK served meals at the Billy Mosienko Arena, which became a local hub for relief and also served as a shelter for displaced families. WCK’s food truck partners cooked hot meals on site. Our teams also supported Winnipeg and the surrounding areas by working in shelters, welcome centers, and through local contacts in the First Nations communities—where we delivered meals to hotels where they were staying. In late June, we supported two events with meals, including a celebration for Nation Indigenous People Day where we served meals to 400 people.
In July, wildfires burned over a million hectares in Manitoba. WCK worked with the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) Command Center to provide the local Métis community with meals and necessary supplies. The steady supply of food the MMF received from WCK helped them expand and reach as many people as possible, from the Manitoba Métis community to other evacuees and First Nations families in need. WCK served more than 45,000 meals in response to the wildfires in Canada.
WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes to the frontlines with the urgency of now to start cooking and provide meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of food trucks or emergency kitchens, WCK provides freshly made, nutritious meals to communities impacted by disasters quickly and effectively. We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.
WCK has provided more than 500 million fresh, nourishing meals for communities around the world. Your donation today will be used to support our emergency food relief efforts.
